Sitting at
an elevation of 2,569 feet above sea level, the City of Glenns Ferry has a
population of approximately 1,600. The climate is mild with temperatures ranging
between 70 and 90 degrees during the Summer months and 0 to 50 degrees during
the Winter months. There is 290 days of sunshine per year, with an average
rainfall of 9.5" inches.
The city's
budget supports a water and sewer system, streets, library, park, cemetery, fire
department, and airport. The airport has a 3,050' x 60' asphalt runway with
remote control lighting. There is no fuel or maintenance provided at this time.
Law
enforcement services are provided by Elmore County from a local sub-station
within the city limits. There are three deputies who live and patrol the
area.
Another
important asset to the community is the local public school system. Located
within the city limits, the Glenns Ferry public school provides elementary and
secondary education to students from throughout the school district.
Opportunities for post-secondary education abound in Boise and Twin Falls, both
of which are only about an hour away from Glenns Ferry.
The
Eastern Elmore County Recreation Department operates a swimming pool twenty-five
meters in length. It is open to the public seven days a week and offers
general swims, aerobics, lap swims, swimming lessons, and private pool parties.
